College football has its first crypto-named stadium. Galaxy Digital announced a 15-year naming rights deal with Texas Tech that will rebrand Jones AT&T Stadium as Galaxy Stadium beginning with the 2026 season — reportedly worth north of $70 million, or roughly $4.7 million a year, though neither side officially disclosed terms.

What Happened

The Red Raiders will christen Galaxy Stadium on September 5 against Abilene Christian. But this is more than a sign swap: Galaxy becomes the official data center and digital assets partner of Texas Tech Athletics, with branding woven through football plus men's and women's basketball across digital, social, and in-game features.

Both sides framed the deal as the opening move in a broader strategic relationship — including potential projects around AI research, workforce development, and economic investment across West Texas, where Galaxy already operates its massive Helios data center campus.

Crypto companies buying stadium names has a complicated history — Crypto.com Arena survived the bear market; FTX Arena obviously didn't. But Galaxy's play is different in kind. Mike Novogratz's firm isn't chasing brand awareness with retail traders; it's deepening roots in a region central to its pivot toward AI and high-performance computing infrastructure. Lubbock isn't a random college town — it's Galaxy's backyard.

It's also another data point in the institutional normalization of crypto brands. A publicly listed digital asset firm putting its name on a Big 12 stadium for a decade and a half is the kind of long-duration commitment that was unthinkable in 2022.
